A coordination meeting of Sikkim Olympic Association [SOA] with Department of Sports & Youth Affairs was held here at Paljor Stadium conference hall on Monday. The meeting was presided by Secretary of Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Kuber Bhandari.
A SOA press release informed that the meeting was attended by senior officials of SYA Department and presidents and secretaries of different sports association of SOA. The release informed that SOA general secretary, Jaslal Pradhan highlighted agenda of the meeting.
The release informed that the Secretary stated that the Department of SYA has been coming up with various sporting events in the State to hunt raw talents from different rural parts of the State to hone their talent with proper coaching and training to take them to the national and international levels. He informed the department had recently conducted inter-school sports events and sent children to National School Games and Khelo India and has been getting encouraging results.
SYA Secretary urged all sports association to submit their annual sporting calendar to the department to prepare the annual calendar of the department accordingly. He further informed that physical education teachers and sports teachers in schools have been to tap talented sportspersons in grass root level for the age category of 7–12 yrs. He further informed that the department will conduct Inter-school sports event annually in the month of October-November. He urged to give suggestions for the development of sports in Sikkim.
The release stated that SOA president BK Roka expressed that all sports association should submit their Annual activity and audit reports to SOA annually by the month of April to forward it to the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Indian Olympic Association.
He informed that Goa is hosting the National Games 2020 and urged all affiliated association to send names of qualified entries as per the norms of IOA at the earliest to SOA. He further informed that 2nd North East Olympic Games to be held at Aurunachal Pradesh in 2020.
Mr Roka further urged all sports association to informed SOA and Department of Sports & Youth Affairs before sending their teams to any zonal, nationals, Invitational and International Tournaments.
