National Horticulture Board (Gangtok centre), Sikkim sponsored one-day “Awareness cum capacity building workshop in Potential Horticulture Cluster Sprout Area of East Sikkim (Sikkim)” was successfully conducted on 3rd December, 2019 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Sikkim, Ranipool with participation of eighty farmers from various villages of East Sikkim district and presentation by scientists from ICAR-NOFRI, Tadong and faculty from CAEPHT, CAU, Ranipool. Alok Kumar, Centre Incharge NHB, Gangtok (Sikkim) organized one-day workshop in collaboration with Horticulture Department, Government of Sikkim and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, East Sikkim (ICAR), Ranipool to spread awareness about various schemes of the board so that farmers may adopt the various horticulture activities with support from the board and other governmental agencies or through bank-loans for their social upliftment. J. P. Rai, Deputy Director (Horticulture), Govt. of Sikkim addressed the gathering and interacted with the farmers to discuss problems and prospects of horticultural farming in their field. Dr. P. K. Pathak, Head, KVK East Sikkim briefed about the different ongoing activities of KVK East Sikkim for upliftment of the rural livelihood and employment opportunity of the farmers through latest agricultural technological know-how. He urged the different line departments to do more collaborative works for achieving the targeted goal of doubling the farmer’s income by 2022. Prof. Deepak Jhajharia, Professor (SWCE), CAEPHT (CAU), Ranipool covered the scope of plasticulture engineering technologies in the northeast hill region with special reference to Sikkim. Dr. Sudip Kr. Dutta, Scientist (Horticulture) delivered one informative powerpoint presentation on Hi-Tech cultivation of major fruits crops of Sikkim. Dr. J. K. Singh, SMS (Plant Breeding), Dr. Manoj Kumar, SMS (Agronomy), Santanu Das, SMS (Agromet) and Tirtha Chettri actively participated and help in smooth running of the programme. The meeting ended with the vote of thanks from Shri Alok Kumar, Incharge NHB (Gangtok).
