Gangtok, Sept 4
Governor of Sikkim Ganga Prasad has extended warm greetings and good wishes to the people of Sikkim and teaching fraternity of the State on the occasion of Teacher’s Day.
Governor has said: “the day commemorates the birth anniversary of one of the greatest educationist, philosopher and a teacher of modern India Late Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who despite reaching the pinnacle of public life and serving the nation as its second President, always took pride being called a teacher.
Teaching as a profession is deeply ingrained in the civilisation of humankind. The ultimate source of wisdom in any progressive society, teachers are epitome of dedication, devotion and sacrifice. Teaching is not merely a profession but a lifelong responsibility towards nation. Since times immemorial, our culture has taught us to revere and worship teachers as deity which reflects deep philosophy within our rich tradition.
No matter how far the technology and modern living has influenced our lives today, teacher remains the most important factor in the process of learning, be it in school, colleges or any other institutions.
On this occasion, let us all acknowledge and pay tributes to the teachers who transformed our lives. Let us join the nation to pay our sincere homage and respect to all those great souls who led us in the path of progress and laid a strong foundation of a vibrant and enlightened society. I call upon the teaching fraternity to take greater pride as a teacher and creator of nation’s future. Let us all endeavour to preserve the sanctity and purity of this noble profession by our action and build a responsible citizenry.
