Sikkim Football Association [SFA] has convened a condolence meeting on the sad demise of its founder member, Pannalal Chatterjee here at Football House on Tuesday. He passed away yesterday at age of 86 years at Kolkata, West Bengal.
A SFA press release issued by its president, Menla Ethenpa informed that late Chatterjee was a member of SFA since its inception 1979 and was helping SFA to send football teams from Kolkata every year for All India Governor’s Gold Cup Football Tournament. It is added that he had also witnessed the Gold Cup every year his wife at Gangtok and Namchi. “Since football was his passion, he is the only Indian who has witnessed the FIFA World Cup in different countries for the 10th times. This achievement of his figures in the Limca Book of record,” it is informed.
The condolence meeting observed two minutes of silence as the mark of respect of the departed soul. The meeting also resolved to depute President, SFA to Kolkata to offer condolences on behalf of SFA and the entire football-loving fans of Sikkim, the release said.
Mr Ethenpa recalled that it was in the final of this year ‘s Governor’s Gold Cup on 12 November, he made a request at Paljor Stadium to the Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang to help him to go to Qatar to witness FIFA World Cup in 2020, which the CM had kindly agreed to sponsor. He further stated that SFA lost its true and dedicated member in the form of Late Pannalal Chatterjee. During a semi-final match on 09 November, Late Chatterjee was also felicitated by the Governor Ganga Prasad. Late Chatterjee had no issue and left behind his wife Chaitali Chatterjee, who is equally a football enthusiast, the release said.
