The final review meeting regarding the 10th Kanchenjunga Winter Festival was held today at Tashi Ghang Resort of Pelling, West Sikkim. As every year, Pelling Tourism Development Society (PTDA) is organizing tourism festival at Pelling from 25th to 31st December with an objective of promoting tourism in West Sikkim.
The preparatory meeting today chaired by Sikkim State Bank’s Chairman D.B Gurung also had presence of ADC (west) Karma Lodey Lepcha, chairman of festival organizing committee N.B Dahal, members of organizing committee and heads of various government departments.
In the meeting various subjects and issues pertaining to winter tourism festival were placed and after thorough discussions and decisions approved, resolutions were passed.
ADC (West) Karma Lodey Lepcha representing the West District Administration assured all the possible help from district administration. He spoke about the financial constraints related to the tourism festival and ascertained that possible financial aids through district administration would be given.
The heads of all the departments such as Power and Energy, Agriculture, PHE, Police Department and others asserted that the concerned departments are ready to contribute towards successful initiation of the festival in their capacity.
Uninterrupted power and water supply along with proper sanitation facilities during the festival were also discussed in the meeting and both Power and PHE departments’ representatives present in the meeting asserted to provide the best services considering the requirements of the festival. The police department citing the law and security issue also assured to deploy police personals at the festival venue along with two platoons of Indian Reserve Batallion.
N.B Dahal, while interacting with media maintained that Kanchenjunga Winter Tourism Festival was being organized to promote tourism in West Sikkim through various activities based on culture, traditions and adventures. He added that the tourism festival should not be kept intact within a preview of entertainment only but it should be initiated also for promotion and propagation our distinct cultural practices through tourism. He informed that Kanchenjunga Winter Tourism Festival this year would be organized in an extensive way on constructive themes.
D.B Gurung in his brief address assured all the help possible from him and the state government. He also promised for financial help to the organizing committee in case of necessity.
A member of the organzing committee informed that apart from cultural programmes, the visitors at the fest could enjoy the traditional food stalls, sporting activities, adventure trekking trail and others.
