Govt must bat for CAA exemption for Sikkim in written: Tseten Tashi Bhutia

SIBLAC Convenor Tseten Tashi Bhutia has blasted the bureaucracy of Sikkim for their alleged role in fake Sikkim Subject case. He has stated that the lethargic attitude of the employees has even misguided the judiciary citing an example of one Indra Kumar Rasaily whose COI has been proven to be illegal, he said.
Further, he has asked that the government must act strongly against such cases and also take action against the officers who have helped procure fake certificates. He stated that such malpractices can result in national security as he said that the above-mentioned residents stay in an army area and is a Panchayat.
Adding on he demanded that all COIs, Sikkim Subjects, and RCs be verified by the new government and further added that discrepancies in granting of COIs in Sikkim is in contradiction to the one-man Justice Sen Commission report that has stated that there is no such cases, he alleged.
He also touched upon the issue of CAA and NRC which he said that the state government must consult all stakeholders including political parties and other social organization to build a consensus which can then also be put forward in Delhi.
Welcoming the statement of home minister Amit Shah on Article 371(f) he added that one should look at it positively and also give solutions.
Adding on he said that ILP can be issued in the state in accordance to the provisions of Article 371(f).
While welcoming Sikkim MPs for opposing CAA in parliament he also stated that Sikkim MPs should have given amendments to the Citizenship Amendment Act to include Sikkim in the draft bill.
Further, he urged the government at an earliest to have an all-encompassing consultations with all parties, social organizations and NGOs to build a common consensus amongst all stakeholders in Sikkim to further safeguard Article 371(f) and a total exemption of Sikkim from CAA in written.
He further alleged that the mistake for CAA is not on the part of the center, who he said has reiterated a stand for Article 371(f) but it is the mistake of the state for not doing the needful.
He also urged the lawyers not to take up the cases of fake COI person in order to safeguard the interests of Sikkim.
