Padmashree Kipu Lepcha was honored with the “Sikkim Times Woman of the Year” Award during the launching of the monthly magazine named “The Sikkim Times” and its e-version at Chintan Bhawan today.
The monthly magazine was launched by the Governor of Sikkim Ganga Prasad.
The programme was also attended by Cabinet Ministers, HODs, teachers and students from various schools.
During the programme, Om Kumari Pradhan was honoured with Sikkim Times Lifetime Achievement Award and likewise, fifty women were also felicitated for their outstanding contribution towards society and for their achievements in different fields.
Governor, Ganga Prasad addressing the gathering, congratulated all awardees and extended his happiness to be a part of an event where women from various fields are being felicitated.
Quoting the lines “God resides in places where there is a respect for women “the Governor said that women should be respected in the society and given the liberty to move forward with dignity to stand tall in every aspect of life.
A society should have a changed mindset towards women upliftment and hope that this magazine would become a source of inspiration and help bringing change in the society, he added.
The Sikkim Times Jury Award 2019, Man of the year (Popular Choice) was awarded to Jacob Khaling, Political Secretary to Chief Minister, Man of the year (Public Mandate) was awarded to Aditya Golay, MLA, Soreng-Chakung and Tenzing Gyatso Lepcha was also awarded with the Man of the year for social revolution. The Sikkim Times also felicitated students of Palzor Namgyal Girls SSS who recently represented India in the Robotic Asia in Shanghai, Chain.
