A recently formed Luing-based organisation, Samaj Utthan Samiti [SUS] has raised its concern on a newly carpeted Luing road from Bakthang to Perbing in East Sikkim. It is informed that this around 7 KMs long road was carpeted around six months back.
Addressing a press conference here today, a SUS active member, Jagannath Pandey expressed his gratitude to the State government for the carpeting of the road. However, he raised his concern over problems facing by the people using this road. He informed that there was no any drainage along the road so the water flowing on the road. He informed that there were three accident-prone areas on this road which needs the protection wall. He added that these spots already recorded some accidents.
Likewise, he also suggested the government to promote Barbotey falls in Thami Dara as a tourism destination. Mr Pandey stated that the area has lots of potential to become a major tourist destination and would also help locals to earn their livelihood by using opportunities created by the spot.
He asserted that the panchayat and municipal elections should not be conducted party-wise but it should be held independently. He urged the government to conduct the upcoming municipal and panchayat elections independently to allow the people to choose the genuine candidate.
He also stressed that the party flag politics should be stopped immediately in the State. Mr Pandey mentioned that the end of such practice would not only save huge amount of money but would also give the value and respect to the flag. He added that the flag politics has been dividing the people in the State.
