Let’s continue to forge ahead with even greater commitment in our movement which we began more than 26 years ago on 4th March 1993: Chamling
New Delhi, July 27
SDF Party President Pawan Chamling has urged the Party Workers who he termed as “ Sahyodhas” to take the challenge and struggle and continue fighting for the democratic rights of the people. Chamling told Sahyodhas to protect and uphold, now more than ever, the ideology on which SDF was brought into existence.
Chamling who is New Delhi Have sent the message through his Official FB Page. Chamling in his message said “Life is a struggle. This is a truth that all must accept with grace. The political life is even more of a struggle because it is the highest form of karma or work. The political life demands much from those who dedicate themselves to it. If we embark on the political life in its truest sense, then it is the purest form of karma. One takes up political life for the work and worship of the greater good. In politics, one must give, give and give selflessly. It requires sacrifice and struggle in the interest of the people and the larger cause of humanity. Our SDF party, in this way, takes politics in its truest sense for the people of Sikkim, with the due seriousness it demands.
Politics is not a business of five years: it is a life-long journey. Our party was at the helm of the government for a wonderful period of 25 years. But during these elections of 2019, we were voted out of the government. However, it is important for people to realize that we have not been voted out of politics. Yes, we lost the elections but we were not rejected by the people. In fact, in the popular vote, we have more votes – 47.63 % for SDF as opposed to 47.03% for the ruling party – but technically, we won two seats less. However, irrespective of whether we are in the government or not, we must continue working for the people under the ideology of the SDF party. SDF party leaders and karyakartas are those who have taken up the work of politics as a lifelong commitment to serving the interest of the people and of Sikkim.
Our ideology is to give power to the people, to ensure inclusive politics, and establish the rule of “the son of soil” in Sikkim under the philosophy and system of democracy. All Sikkimese people must enjoy their democratic rights and be free from all bondage – mental, physical, social, economic and political. It is critical to understand at this time that our party ideology and program is not limited to just forming the government. Instead, it encapsulates this much wider promise and purpose.
True leadership is tested not in times of prosperity but in the darkest and most difficult of times. I urge all our party Sahyodhas to take upon them the challenge and struggle of our present circumstance, and continue fighting for the democratic rights of the people. We must continue to fight and be willing to sacrifice for our cause of peace, progress, protection and prosperity of the Sikkimese people. We must protect and uphold, now more than ever, the ideology on which SDF was brought into existence.
We must engage in responsible politics and uphold the ethics which guide our political life. We must protect the rule of law and reject with our absolute might all elements and practices that dilute the sanctity of politics. My dear Sahyodhas, in this struggle is hidden a wonderful opportunity to study, learn, reflect on mistakes, correct them, and sharpen our ability to be of greater service to the people and solve problems in our society. Please recognize this opportunity that we have been presented with and let’s strengthen our resolve and work to overcome challenges not just now, but for decades and decades to come.
We have not lost anything. We have not lost our mission. We have not lost our ideology. We have not lost our core principal of service. We have not lost our tremendous experience of 25 years which put Sikkim on the global map. We have not lost our relentless pursuit of creating a better Sikkim for the people. And most important of all, we have not lost our commitment to Sikkim. So, let us continue to forge ahead with even greater commitment in our movement which we began more than 26 years ago on 4th March 1993. For when you fall hard, you rise that much higher! Let us be SDF STRONG! Chamling concludes.
