Geyzing, Sept 3
Bharatiya Janta party (Sikkim Pradesh) organized a programme termed as ‘Sangathan Parwa’ and membership drive today here at community hall of Geyzing. The programme was attended by BJP’s state president D.B Chauhan, former SDF minister and present BJP MLA of Maneybung Dentam constituency N.K Subba, MLA, Rinchenpong constituency K.S Lepcha, BJP west district president Sanjit Subba and the supporters of BJP from West Sikkim.
MLA N.K Subba deliberated on objective behind leaving the Sikkim Democratic Front and joining BJP. He maintained that 10 SDF MLAs including him have joined the national party (BJP) as they felt that it would be easier for them to serve the people of their respective constituency in better way through the national political platform such as BJP. He added that the SDF MLAs have chosen the national party over the regional party to safeguard the rights and interests of the Sikkimese people. Accusing the ruling front of resorting to politics of vengeance and victimization, N.K Subba said that the government has changed but not the system. He claimed that the ruling front SKM is not allowing the opposition MLAs to work for the people in a free and fair way, adding that people are suggested to seek recommendation and signatures of ruling political party’s incharge(s) instead of elected representatives for public related work. He lamented that panchayat members are almost nonexistence as village level political committees have been formed to look after local needs by the ruling front. “Such practices is undemocratic and uncalled for. When we realized that despite being MLAs of our respective constituency we cannot work for welfare of our people and voters we joined the national party”, he said.
Subba maintained that SDF MLAs who have joined BJP would work in tandem with the national party for welfare of the Sikkimese people.
Attacking SKM party, N.K Subba expressed that 100 days have passed but the ruling front has failed to deliver the promises made to the Sikkimese people. He said that SKM party’s promise of fulfilling all the demands of people seems to be vague and void. He claimed that the ruling front SKM is still acting as an opposition party and running after the opposition MLAs with political vengeance. The ruling front SKM should be more serious on the state day to day affairs instead of running after opposition’s MLAs and panchayat members, he said.
MLA K.S Lepcha also maintained that SDF party’s MLAs joined BJP with an objective of serving people through a national political party. He said that they felt that being MLAs of the regional opposition party it would be difficult for them to serve Sikkim in liberal way and that was the reason behind joining BJP. Alleging that the ruling front SKM’s politics of vengeance and modus operandi made it difficult for them to work for people and compelled them to join the national political platform. He asserted to work for welfare of people through wider political platform such as BJP.
D.B Chauhan maintained that 10 SDF MLAs who joined BJP was not for their personal gain but for greater interests of Sikkim and its people. Chauhan without naming Sikkim Progressive Forum that had protested against SDF MLAs shift to BJP, said that It was constitutional right on the part of SDF MLAs who joined BJP and some section of sponsored people’s protest against MLAs shifting their allegiance to BJP is undemocratic and unconstitutional. The sponsored protest was illogical and fruitless, he said.
Chauhan informed that after six month BJP party would intensify the party based activities across the state. He said that with the support 10 BJP MLAs the party would work comprehensively to garner support of people. Adding that BJP is running its government in most of the north eastern states, Chauhan maintained that BJP has potential to lead the state of Sikkim as well.
He alleged that victimizations of people in various forms and politics of vengeance have become rampant under present SKM government and the Sikkimese people are concerned on the threats posed to peace and tranquility of Sikkim. He stated that SKM government has failed to live upto people’s expectations as it has failed in many aspects.
Chauhan maintained that BJP would remain committed to Sikkim in terms of development and welfare of the Sikkim and the party would work to safeguard the rights and interests of the Sikkimese. More than 300 joined BJP today from West Sikkim.
