More than 50 participants are expected to represent the state of Sikkim in the National Arm Wrestling Championship 2019 scheduled to be held at auditorium of Geyzing Girls Senior Secondary School on July 29 and 30. The state level selection trial for the Sikkimese aspirants was held on Wednesday here at community hall, Geyzing, West Sikkim. Many enthusiasts from across the state had taken part in the selection trial and 12 males and 8 females aspirants were selected by the expert panel comprised of refrees and established arm wrestlers of the state. The selected aspirants will log horn with the participants from rest of the states of India.
All Sikkim Arm Wrestling Association (ASAWA) will be managing the two day event under the aegis of Arm Wrestling Federation of India (AWFI).
Khagen Gurung, vice president of ASAWA informed that apart from 20 selected aspirants, the established arm wrestlers of Sikkim will also participate at the mega event. He added that more than 50 participants from the state have been selected from all the four districts of the state.
The vice president of AWFI Ganesh Subba said that Sikkim as a host will give a strong participation in the championship with an objective of promoting arm wrestling in the state. “We have given chance to able and strong aspirants and we are confident about Sikkim’s strong performance in the championship. It will be a moment of pride to represent Sikkim”, Subba said.
The organizing committee has informed that almost all the states of India are participating in the championship.
