Chief minister P.S Golay and his spouse Krishna Tamang attended the Vedic seminar held at Kirateshwar Shiva Dhaam of Legship, West Sikkim on Monday. Chief minister was the chief guest in the second day of three days seminar on the Vedas. Also present at the event was
Deputy Speaker Sangey Lepcha, agriculture minister and area MLA Loknath Sharma, Rhenock constituency’s MLA Bishnu Kumar Khatiwada, political secretary Jacob Khaling, heads of various departments and others.
Chief Minister P.S Golay in his address expressed that cultural and religious seminars help to promote, protect and conserve our cultures and religions. He maintained that under SKM government the religious secularism has been restored and the followers of any religions do not have to fear for their religious affiliation. “We have created such environment where the people are free to follow any religion of their choice. Sikkim is a secular state and we are committed to maintain religious freedom in the state”, he said.
Golay expressed that SKM government lifted the ban imposed by the former SDF government on the entry of spiritual guru of Heavenly Path Organization in Sikkim and that was the evidence of religious tolerance maintained by SKM government in Sikkim. He shared that SKM government would support each and every religion, adding that the people could practice any religion without fear.
“For me all the religions are equal and my religion is humanism. Do not compare P.S Golay on the basis of the caste and religion”, Golay said.
He further added that unlike in the time of former SDF government the persons having any political affiliations could be in any religious and cultural organizations in the state. We do not endorse position and opposition politics in the religious and cultural matters, he said.
On the demand of developmental works to be initiated at Kirateshwar Shiva Dhaam, chief minister P.S Golay asserted that the state government would consider the demand.
Intimating about the commitment of the SKM government for the greater development of West Sikkim, Golay said that West Sikkim would not be ignored by the state government as in the 25 years old SDF government. He apprised that the developmental works in West Sikkim would be given topmost priority.
He added that the SKM government would not forget the role played by the people of West Sikkim for bringing the party in power and the state government would not betray the people.
SKM government is not the government of P.S Golay but it is of the people and for the people. I am just a medium to run the government, he said.
Earlier in the morning chief minister conducted puja at Dhaam.
Discourse on four Vedas, recitation of Vedic hymns and other Vedas based cultural event were part of the programme. The scholars of Vedas from some states of India deliberated on importance of Vedas, adoption of Vedic way of life and need for propagation and promotion of Vedic cultures in comprehensive way in the country. They opined that rapid modernization of the world is casting shadow on our cultural heritage and effort must be put up for conserving our age old practices.
