Centre attitude “unconstitutional” towards Sikkim and its demands: Chamling

Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has expressed his displeasure over the approach of the Central government towards two important political demands of Sikkim of seat reservation of Limboo and Tamang in the State Assembly and tribal status to 11 left-out communities of Sikkim.

Chief Minister Pawan Chamling has expressed his displeasure over the approach of the Central government towards two important political demands of Sikkim of seat reservation of Limboo and Tamang in the State Assembly and tribal status to 11 left-out communities of Sikkim. The CM was speaking to journalists at his residence at Ghurpisey, Namchi in South Sikkim on the occasion of New Year.

He stated that Sikkimese people having the same rights as others citizens of the Country on Sikkim was also being the part of India. “So for the same, to overlook and not to take any decision on two important constitutional demands of Sikkimese people is the wrong attitude of the Central government. This is ignoring of Sikkimese people and unconstitutional attitude of the Central government,” he said.

CM expressed that the Central government has not done the right evaluation of Sikkimese people in the democratic manner. On the same, he added that it was necessary for the people of Sikkim to be united and aware to come together to struggling for their constitutional rights on being the Indian citizen. He also expressed his dissatisfaction on ignoring of these demands despite SDF party being the part of NDA and NEDA.

We have sincerely delivered our responsibility as a member of NDA and NEDA but the Central government has not deliver its responsibility. It is also the duty of the Centre to deliver its responsibility and the people of Sikkim would understand this and would take the decision, he added. It has to be mentioned here that the CM had expressed his dissatisfaction towards the Centre in his address recently on the occasion of the government formation day of SDF government at Saramsa Garden in which he stated that the Prime Minister has not taken any step on demands of Sikkim despite of being placed demands twice during his Sikkim visit in last five years.

On Rojgar Mela of the State government, the CM stated that Rojgar Mela was an unique programme of Sikkim government in the world and Sikkim was the first State in the world to implement the ‘One Family, One Job’ scheme. On Rojgar Mela on 12 January, the appointment letters would be handed over directly to 20,000 families of Sikkim. He stated that the scheme would send a strong message to the country and the world.

On upcoming elections, the CM stated that SDF party was fully prepared for the upcoming elections. He added that SDF party was always ready for the election and the party was in the favour of youths and they would be given chance in the upcoming election.

He mentioned that SKM party has been creating the environment of fear from the political platform. “SKM party speeches would create terror in the people and it also clearly shows the political agenda of SKM party was undemocratic and unconstitutional,” he said. He added that SDF party always works on its agendas and programme. “SDF is the people-centric party and we are fulfilling the hope and aspiration of the people of Sikkim. We have been working tirelessly day and night to give all relief to the people with our programme. Rojgar Mela and other programme are among our works for the people,” he said. He asserted that the party in the power for last 25 years does not need to copy any programme from others.

While extending greetings and best wishes of New Year 2019 to all, he urged Sikkimese and Indian Nepali speaking Gorkhas to work together.
