The selection trial of participants for the national level arm wrestling championship will be held on 17 July here at Geyzing bazar premises. The selection trial is being organized only for the applicants from the state of Sikkim and the interested applicants may report to the selection committee. The selection trial will start at 10 in the morning.
It may be mentioned here that the Geyzing will be playing host to the three days national level arm wrestling championship on 29th, 30th and 31st July this year and All Sikkim Arm Wrestling Association (ASAWA) under the aegis of Arm Wrestling Federation (AWFI) of India is all set to organize the championship at auditorium of the Government Degree College, Geyzing.
While speaking with media paersons, Ganesh Subba, vice president of AWFI and also a member of the organizing committee expressed that the trial is being held to select the able and eligible aspirants for the national level championship. He informed that in the selection trial the basic knowledge, technics, rules and regulations on arm wrestling would be passed on to the participants. Subba maintained that the selection trial will be as competitive as a real tournament and the participants must be remain mentally and physically prepared to face the contest. He added that prior to the selection trial the expert wrestlers will demonstrate the technics and the rules to be followed by the participants. “As it is the national level championship, the best and able participants will get an opportunity to take part in the championship. Selection trial on all the category of arm wrestling will be conducted. We are not leaving any stone unturned to make the championship competitive in all aspects”, he said.
Aitaman Subba, general secretary of ASAWA informed that no allowances will be provided to the participants in the selection trial by the organizing committee. He said that interested aplicants from any corner of the state of Sikkim could take part in the selection trial. “Our objective is to promote and propagate Arm Wrestling in Sikkim which is very new and unexplored sporting field and also to sensitize people about health based benefits of arm wrestling”, he said.
It is for the first time the national level arm wrestling Championship is being held in Sikkim. Many local NGOs and individuals of Geyzing have come forward to support the initiative taken by ASAWA and the organizing commitee is working committedly to make the event successful. The participants from all the states of the country are expected to contest in the championship.
