Bharat Basnet, President, State Pradesh Congress Committee (SPCC) has expressed his disappointment with Government of Sikkim for sending Dr Mahendra P. Lama to sign on the Mussoorie Resolution on behalf of CM PS Golay in the Conclave of the Himalayan States held in Mussoorie on July 29.
” GOS has sufficient Advisors, elected representatives, in spite of all, why Lama was sent to represent Sikkim CM? It is a matter of concern for Sikkimese people,” said Basnett.
Basnett further mentioned that there is an ongoing CBI case in Supreme Court against Prof Lama on alleged corruption in Sikkim University and it was not appropriate to have appointed him in the first place.
Mr. Basnet added that the whole point of bringing in Parivartan was to do things in a new way, which should have included more local protection.
Senior Congress leader Mr Basnett has elucidated what many have been saying with regards to appointment of Prof MP Lama as Chief Economic Advisor of the CM.
Many in social media have stated that a Sikkimese, CL Denzongpa as the Economic Advisor can fulfill his responsibilities and the state should not depend on “outsiders” to further its growth and development path.
It is to be mentioned here that the Mussoorie Resolution signed by the Himalayan States on the occasion saw them pledging to make endeavours to protect and conserve the rich Himalayan heritage and ethos for the prosperity and well-being of the nation; cherish and nurture the wealth of biodiversity- the glaciers, rivers, lakes, forests and wildlife; preserve the vibrant folk arts and crafts, the culture and folklore to pass them on to coming generations
