A meeting to discuss and finalize the operation of newly constructed Bongthing School at Naga in North Sikkim was convened here at Naga in North Sikkim today.
The meeting was chaired by Secretary Culture Department Ambika Pradhan and was attended by DC North, Karma R Bonpo, SLA-President NT Lepcha, SLYA general secretary, SILTA President, Mayelmit Lepcha, representatives from Sikkim University and the panchayat members.
NT Lepcha who is the main person behind the concept of this project in the area said that since the Bongthing School has been completed and it’s very important for us to start it as soon as possible.
He also said that Naga is only the place in India which has successfully established Bongthing School and also added that they are planning to connect the Bongthing School with the Lepcha language department of Sikkim University.
The committee are also planning to open a research center where the traditional Bongthing to the students, will be taught. He also requested all the Lepcha people to bring into their notice of the people who are Bongthing by birth. The renown Lepcha Bongthing Ollay Lepcha will be the instructor for the Bongthing School, it is informed.
He also said that the said Bongthing School will be proposed to inaugurate by the chief minister during his visit to North Sikkim.
He brought into the notice of the public that this school is open for children below the age group of 14 years.
The main motive of this school is to make the children ready for future to and make it a way for them to earn their living in future.
At the end, the DC North said that a new committee and a memorandum should be made and registered in law department so that there that some center scheme will be provided.
The Culture Department Secretary said that if any help will is needed from Culture Department, it will be provided.
At the end all the attenders visited traditional house and Bongthing School.
