Home Guards working in different government departments and other organisations in Sikkim have appealed the State government to provide salaries at par to the police constables of Sikkim. They have also urged the government to regularize their service on completing five years of the service like other adhoc, MR and WC employees of Sikkim. They further appealed for an appointment with the Chief Minister to place their issues and grievances.

Addressing a press conference here today, they stated that “we are not satisfied with our salaries as it is very difficult for us to run our families with this salary. So we urged the government to provide us the salary at par to the police constable,” they appealed.

They mentioned that home guards have to face written and viva examination to get the job and also to undergo through 90 days police training. On the same, they urged the government to regularize their service on completing 5 years like other adhoc, MR and WC employees of the State.

It is informed that there were lots of home guards who have been working for many years and even few of them were working for more than 30 years as home guards. “We are very hopeful with that the CM would understand our problem and regularize us on completing five years of the service,” they said.

They mentioned that the CM had announced to regularise home guards having the service of more than 15 years as night guards in a meeting last year. However, they urged the government to regularise them on completing the service of five years instead of 15 years. They have also demanded to provide them medical facilities, travel allowance and stop the practice to withdraw them from the service in case of any mistake.
