5th Sikkim Run a prelude to Jorethang Maghey Mela held

The Minister for Healthcare, Human Services and Family Welfare cum Area MLA Salghari Zoom A.K.Ghatani flagged off the 5th Sikkim Run at Jorethang today.

Jorethang, Jan 13 (IPR)                                              

 The Minister for Healthcare, Human Services and Family Welfare cum Area MLA Salghari Zoom A.K.Ghatani flagged off the 5th Sikkim Run at Jorethang today. This Run was organized by Zest, a Gangtok based NGO, in collaboration with Maghey Mela Celebrations Committee 2019 as a prelude to Maghey Mela Celebrations 2019. The Sikkim Run was also supported by Self Help Groups, Entrepreneurs and local community along with Government of Sikkim.The programme was attended by Chairman NJMC, Tika Gurung, SDM Jorethang, Tshering Bhutia along with other officials, members of  Mela Organizing Committee, senior citizens and participants from Sikkim and the neighboring state.

 The 5th Sikkim Run was held in five categories namely:

1)Great Run of 10 kms in the age group of 11 to 17 years. 2) Half Marathon of 21 kms in the age group of 18 to 45 years. 3) Dream Run of 5 kms in the age group of 18 and above. 4) Veteren Run of  10 kms in the age group of 45 and above.And also the event hosted  Run For Fun for kids in age group of 6 to 10 years.The marathon was organised to create awareness against drug abuse, to promote clean environment and a friendly society and youth upliftment.

Extending his best wishes to the participants, the Minister A.K.Ghatani spelt that marathon as a sport has always helped people to divert in the productive and beneficial things. Instead of just conducting the competitions, marathon always brings awareness and a sense of social responsibility in creating a drug free, healthy and productive society, he added. 

In the Great Run of 10 kms in the age group of 11 -17 in the boys category, Mr. Mohammad Mazaruddie stood first position followed by Mr Riwaj Chhetri in second and Abhinash Deokota in third category.

In the girls category,  Ms. Ranjana Tamang bagged the first position followed by Ms Sabina Rai and Ms. Siksha Rai in second and third positions.

While in the half Marathon of 21 kms in the age group of 18 to 45 years in boys category, the first position was grabbed by Mr Bikash Bhujel whereas Mr Saroj Mangar and Mr. Prabal Chhetri came in the second and third positions.

Likewise in the girls category,  Ms. Chandrakala bagged the first position while Ms. Preeity Rai and Eaksahang Limbu came second and third respectively.

Similarly, in the Dream Run of 5kms in the age group of 18 and above was bagged by Sheikh Mizaz in the first category, SI  Prashant Rai and Poonam Cintury in the second and third respectively. 

Additionally in the Veterans Run of 10kms in the age group of 45 and above in the mens category was grabbed by Mr. Subarna Subba in the first, followed by Mr Kamal Thapa and Karma Tshering Bhutia in the second and third respectively.

While in the womens category, Mrs Susan Bhutia was feliciated in the Veterans women category. 

During the felicitation programme, the youngest runner Master Behang Subba and the oldest runner Mr. M.K. Pradhan were also feliciated for their spirit.

One guest participant from Sweden Mr. Cavl Joacim Aslim was also felicitated.

Minister A.K. Ghatani gave away the cash prizes of Rs. 30000/- 15000/- and 8000/- who stood first second and third respectively in the Half Marathon of 21 kms whereas winners and runners up of other categories were provided with prize, medals and certificates.

During the occasion, Pipe Band from Jorethang Sr.Secondary School was also felicitated for their remarkable achievement  in National arena.

Earlier, a zumba session was also held to boost the morale of participants. Jorethang Pipe Band also enthralled the gathering with their exceptional performance.

In the programme, three guests namely Susana Sakamoto, President & Founder Of Brazilian NGO Named Acesso, Founder & Director of Write Your Future an  UN awarded project, UN Youth Assembly Campus Ambassador, Dr. Cleusa Sakamoto, Psychologist & Vice President of Acesso and Ms. Juliana Riberio, Lawyer & President of Instituto Plenas attended the programme and also shared their experiences in the journey of social responsibilty and youth empowerment.
