National folk and cultural dance event ‘Deshaj’ concludes

The three-day long national level event of folk and cultural dance, music and play, ‘Deshaj’ finally concluded on 10 December at Lachen in North Sikkim.

GANGTOK, 12 Dec

The three-day long national level event of folk and cultural dance, music and play, ‘Deshaj’ finally concluded on 10 December at Lachen in North Sikkim. The event had over 300 established and renowned artists from 21 States of the Country. On the occasion, local artists of Lachen have also highlighted local culture and traditions of the State to the artists from different parts of the country.

The event was jointly organised by Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department, Government of Sikkim and Sangeet Natak Akademi North East Centre, Guwahati. The event was inaugurated by District Collector [North] Karma R Bonpo at the community hall at Lachen. Fifteen representatives from each State have performed during three-day long event.

OSD of Cultural Affairs and Heritage Department, Jagdish Sharma stated that although it was challenging task to organise the event at high altitude in this winter but it was a grand success. He added that participants enjoyed the natural beauty of the area even in this chilly weather. He added that 305 artists from different States performed during the festival. The concluding day of the festival on 10 December had Forest Minister Tshering Wangdi Lepcha as the chief guest.
