The Minister for Forest, Environment and Wildlife Management Department Tshering Wangdi Lepcha graced as the chief guest on the final day of Maghey Mela celebration at Jorethang today.
He was accompanied by Minister for IPR and Printing and Stationary Department A.K.Ghatani, Chairman NJMC Tika Gurung, SDM Jorethang, Tshering Bhutia along with the members of Maghey Mela Celebration Committee 2019.
The dignitaries visited Arogya and CATCH camps at Garib Utthan Bhawan followed by SARAS fair.
On the occasion, the chief guest also distributed aids and appliances to the beneficiaries provided by Health Department.
Addressing the gathering, the chief guest termed the Maghey Sankranti as one of the main festivals of Sikkimese society which bears a special significance. Jorethang Maghey Mela is an amalgamation of rich culture and heritage of the Sikkimese society which attract a major number of people from all walks of life and tourists as well, he added. He also highlighted the traditional ethos, customs, and the glory of maghey mela which has presently been increased to manifold.
During the course of the program the overall best stall was awarded to Sikkim Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Karfectar.
On the occasion, HRDD South also felicitated Pipe Band of Jorethang Senior Secondary School for their tremendous performance at the National level.
Other highlight of the day included colorful cultural extravaganza performed by local artists.
