A brace by John Tshering Lepcha helped the State Sports Academy to become the champion of Sikkim Football Association U-17 Football League 2019 played here at Paljor Stadium. In a contesting final match played this afternoon, the State Sports Academy has outplayed Dzongu Football Club 2-0 to lift the champion’s trophy.
John Tshering scored the early lead for the State Sports Academy in the 8th minute and soon completed his brace in the 11th minute. In return, Dzongu FC boys played their hearts out but failed to convert any chance into the goal in the second half. In the second half, both teams got some good opportunities but missed the net and finally the State Sports Academy became the champion of the first ever U-17 league of SFA.
Lakpa Sherpa of the State Sports Academy adjudged as the Man of the Match, while goalkeeper of Dzongu FC, Sushan Tamang received the Best Goalkeeper trophy. Two very young footballers of Gangtok FC, Avinash Rasaily and Roshan Kumar awarded as the Most Promising Players of the Tournament.
Secretary to Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Dr RK Tamang and Sikkim Olympic Association president, BK Roka gave away medals and trophies to its winners.
A total of ten teams participated in this U-17 League, which were Dzongu FC, Sports Academy, Gangtok FC, JVC FC, Singtam, FC Melli, Chujachen FA, Namthang FA, New Light Academy, Namchi, Howler’s FC, Singtam and Sikkim Boys. Teams were divided into two groups with 5 teams each for the league round and top two teams of the each group then played the semi-final round.
