The Gram Sabha held at Yuksam GPU under the chairmanship of Panchayat vice president Rinchen Lepcha was attended by Deputy Speaker and area MLA Sangay Lepcha, Yuksam SDM Dr. Sonam Rinchen Lepcha, Gram Panchayat members, Line Departments heads and public.
At the outset, Village Administrative Assistant Khabindra Gurung placed the progress report of GPU. He informed that Yuksam GPU has initiated many public welfare works in various wards of GPU.
Panchayat vice president Rinchen Lepcha informed the people of different wards of GPU about various schemes taken up through GPU and asserted to work in tandem with SKM led government in near future to accelerate the pace of development in GPU.
Yuksam SDM Dr. Sonam Rinchen Lepcha expressed that the constituency is setting an example by holding Gram sabhas at Every GPU in the presence of area MLA and concerned public. He said that effort being put up by area MLA and Deputy speaker Sangay Lepcha for betterment of the constituency is an appreciable step.
Speaking on issue of subletting licence to the non locals, SDM made it clear that as per the notification brought out by the state government practice of subletting trade licence to non local should be stopped considering the local interests and benefits of local people. On tourism sector of the constituency SDM pressed for improvement of tourism based facilities and service maintaining that Yuksam – Tashiding constituency could play a pivotal role for development of tourism in the state. Tourism can play a medium through which issue of unemployment can be addressed, he said.
In an open interactive session, the people of various wards of GPU placed numbers of demands such as establishment of nationalized banks and ATMs facilities considering the constituency’s growing popularity as a tourism destination and growing numbers of people in the constituency. People opine that due to lack of banking facilities they have to travel 30 – 35 kilometres to avail the banking facilities located at Pelling and Geyzing bazar. Availing banking facilities in the constituency is a long pending demand, the said.
Other problems prevalent in GPU were also discussed in Sabha.
On the issue of trade licenses subletting, Gram Sabha passed the resolution to abolish such practices and has appeal the non local traders and businessmen of the constituency to shut their shops and business establishments within December 2019. Gram panchayat unit has sought the state’s government intervention in the matter.
Deputy Speaker Sangay Lepcha asserted that he would placed all the demands and grievances of the people of the constituency in forthcoming state assembly session. He maintained that SKM led Government is new and people should have patience. “People of the state will witness a dawn of new era in terms of development, progress and prosperity. Development of all the sectors is utmost priorities of SKM government and we need the public support for catering development oriented schemes and projects in the state”, he said.
