Need to transfer correct values and discipline to the coming generation: Ugen Gyatso

Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation and Commerce & Industries Department Ugen T. Gyatso inaugurated a newly developed Assembly ground/yard at the premises of Samdong Senior Secondary School today. The Minister who is also the area MLA of 16-Tumin Lingee Constituency was in the school to grace the School Annual Function as the chief guest. The new infrastructure was donated to the school by Secretary, Chief Minister’s Office, Shri D.R. Nepal and his family in memory of his late father Pandit Dharmananda Nepal. After unveiling the plaque and formally inaugurating the assembly yard in the presence of Principal, teachers and students, parents, guardians and local dignitaries, the Minister dedicated the facility to the school.
The programme had the presence of former MLA Norzang Lepcha, former Member, State Planning Commission Lakila Tongden, eminent litterateur Shri Thiru Prasad Nepal, Director HRDD Dr. Y.P. Nepal, Principal Samdong SSS Radha Pradhan, Zilla Panchayat Member Hemraj Adhikari, BDO Tintek Indramani Adhikari, Panchayat members, and local dignitaries.
Later, addressing the School Annual function, Minister Shri Ugen T. Gyatso expressed his commitment to continue working for the welfare of the people of the region. He illustrated the importance of education and the need to transfer correct values and discipline to the coming generation. He called upon every member of the school faculty, including the School Management Committee to take ownership of the School and facilitate the process of preparing the students for the challenges ahead. The Minister assured every help in improving the existing infrastructure of the school and provide additional support if required. The Minister lauded the initiative of D.R. Nepal for his noble gesture towards the school. The Minister also recalled the contribution of the illustrated alumni of the school and exhorted the students to work with sincerity and achieve a distinction in their chosen field.
Special Guest Shri Thiru Prasad Nepal gripped the audience with renditions of some of his notable poems. Most of the poems he recited were social satires and were based on women empowerment and issues relevant to youth and students.
Addressing the gathering, Secretary, CMO, and alumnus of the School, Shri D.R. Nepal expressed his gratitude to the Hon’ble Minister for his valuable presence and for inaugurating the newly created facility. Shri Nepal shared the hardships faced by him during his days as a student of the school and added that the students of the present day should realize how fortunate they are. He paid obeisance to his father who understood the value of education even during those days and resisted the prevalent social orthodoxy and ensured that his children received modern education. He urged the students to make the most of the facilities provided by the Government and carry forward the rich legacy of the school.
Earlier, in her welcome address, Principal Samdong SSS, Smt Radha Pradhan thanked the Minister for his presence and for his continued guidance and support in making the school an exemplar. She also recorded her appreciation for the much needed assembly yard provided by Shri Nepal and his family. The Principal also took the opportunity to highlight some of the notable initiatives of the school.
Students excelling in academics in the current academic session were awarded with Certificates and prizes, while three students were awarded the customary ‘Green Coat’ by the Chief Guest. The Green coat is an initiative started by the School since the past three years, where outstanding students excelling in various fields were rewarded during the school annual function.
The function was neatly punctuated with colourful cultural presentations by students of the school.
