The women front of the SDF party held a coordination meeting here at community hall premises of Geyzing on Thursday. The meeting chaired by former speaker and senior member of the party Kalawati Subba also had presence of MLA Chandra Maya Subba, panchayat cell vice president Manita Mangar, Zilla Adhakshya (west) Devika Subba, party’s west district general secretary (women front) Jangmu Sherpa, party functionaries from all the eight constituency of west Sikkim and women supporters of the party in massive numbers.
Meeting was the part of strengthening the party from all levels and also to aware the party functionaries about their roles and responsibilities while working for the party and also to aware the people about party’s agendas and policies. It was informed that the party is going to intensify the party based campaigns and programmes in west district considering the upcoming state assembly poll which is in the air.
Manita Mangar calling for need of unity and proper coordination among the party functionaries, said that women would have to play a bigger role this time to ensure victory of the SDF party in the upcoming election. She expressed that Sikkimese women have made up their minds to cast their precious vote for SDF and the party will victorious time and again. Mangar further added that the SDF party has been initiating political programmes in all the four districts of the state and it has been able to receive overwhelming support of the people. Exhorting that people should not be carried away by false political propagandas spread and being preached by the opposition parties, Manita Mangar maintained that the SDF party enjoys the support of the people from all the four districts. Pointing to the presence of massive numbers of women supporters in the meeting on Thursday Manita Mangar said, “The presence of massive numbers of women in the meeting today is a fitting reply to the opposition parties who claim that the SDF party lacks people’s support. I hope that now they (opposition parties) have got their notions wrong”, she said.
Describing about numbers of women centric schemes and initiatives conceptualized and executed by the SDF government, Manita Mangar claimed that women empowerment in the state has happened in the state and the economic, educational and cultural upliftment have become possible due to farsighted women centric policies made and brought into practice by Pawan Chamling led government. Saying that gender equilibrium in the state is well maintained in Sikkim where discrimination against women is rarely heard, Manita Mangar credited the SDF government for improvement of conditions of women and she further appealed the women to stand in solidarity with the SDF. She added that in order to keep the peace and prosperities of Sikkim intact there is no better option other than the SDF.
She appealed the party functionaries work with new vigor to strengthen the party.
Kalawati Subba in her speech stated that the opposition parties will not be able to sway the strong political base of the SDF party in West Sikkim. “We are strong and stable in all aspects in West Sikkim and the party has overwhelming support of the people. It will take more than 30 years for the opposition parties to bring down the political fort of the SDF in West Sikkim”, she said.
Subba further added that the women front in West Sikkim is strong and no political parties could defuse the women’s unity and support for the SDF party. “We, the women front take up the responsibilities to ensure victories for our party in the upcoming election. The women will be playing a bigger role this time to give the party another victory”, she said.
On the party functionaries roles and responsibilities, Kalawati Subba said that commitment, dedication and loyalty are necessary while serving the party. She expressed that the party workers should act as a bridge to connect the party with the common people. Spreading awareness, clearing misconceptions among the people regarding the party, reaching out to the people with party based programmes and policies are other responsibilities to be shouldered by the party functionaries, she said.
The party functionaries and supporters had placed their opinions and suggestions on various party related issues and the senior party workers had answered them.
