Field Outreach Bureau Gangtok in coordination with ICDS Women & Child Welfare Division Government of Sikkim organised Poshan Maah at B. Ed College Soreng. The inaugural programme started with taking pledge on Poshan Maah administered by the Principal of B Ed College Soreng Mrs Sabita Subba.
Speaking on the occasion Shri Dipendra Rai Asst. Director, Nutrition Board narrated Paanch Sutra and their components which includes 1000 days of child anaemia, diarrhoea, hand wash and sanitation and nutritious food as poor nutrition can lead to reduced immunity, increased susceptibility to disease, impaired physical and mental development, and reduced productivity.
Dr. Roshna Thapa Medical Officer Soreng PHC briefed the audience about the importance of health & hygiene in daily life especially for lactating mother and babies. She urged the gathering to practice hygiene to prevent diseases and in turns it will lead to good health, especially cleanliness and good disposal of waste water and drinking water supply.
While speaking on anaemia Dr Thapa briefed the audience about its causes and the preventive measures. There are many causes of anaemia, out of which iron deficiency accounts for about 50 percent of anaemia in children and women of reproductive age-group, she added. Dr Thapa said that women in the childbearing years are particularly susceptible to iron-deficiency anaemia because of the blood loss from menstruation and the increased blood supply demands during pregnancy.
Speaking on this occasion, the Principal B.Ed College Soreng Mrs Sabita Subba who was also the Chief Guest appreciated the programme and urged the participants to spread the messages in their respective area.
The ASHA workers of Soreng and nearby area actively participated in the programme. A skit on Poshan Maah by the student of B Ed College Soreng was staged and a quiz competition was also held on the occasion among the participants. (PIB)
