The pre-Gandhi Jayanti Celebrations was held today at Dodak Secondary School which had the presence of Chief Minister Shri PS Golay. He was accompanied by Minister-cum-area MLA Shri MN Sherpa, Press Advisor to HCM Shri CP Sharma, Confidential Secretary to HCM Bikash Basnet, PRO to HCM Ratnamani Pradhan and officers of Soreng subdivision.
The day long event began by paying of tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi by the Chief Minister which was followed by cultural extravaganza.
P.S.Golay in his address thanked the organising committee for inviting him for the event. He elaborated on the importance of Mahatma Gandhi and said that he connected India, in letter and spirit, in thought and action. In the 21st century, the thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi remain as essential as they were in his time. He also mentioned about the Swachata Abhiyan which was launched by the Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on 2nd October 2014 which aims at brining improvement in the general quality of life in the rural areas, by promoting cleanliness, hygiene and eliminating open defecation.
The Government of Sikkim in its effort to fulfill the dream of Shri Narendra Modi and to combat the issues of climate change has adopted various measures like putting a ban on usage of mineral water bottles at public events and adoption of various schools by the Cabinet Ministers and top level officers for maintenance of sanitation and cleanliness. He also expressed his immense happiness in adopting Soreng Senior Secondary School in his effort towards Swachata Abhiyan.
P.S.Golay further reiterated the stand of the present government and said that they are working for the development at large of the state and for the Sikkimese people. He thanked the people for their never ending support and trust on him and said that he would always uphold the values and love of the Sikkimese people and work diligently for their upliftment and development of the state. At the end he acknowledged the various demands placed by the people of the area and assured that it would all be looked into after the model code of conduct.
