The first meeting of the committee constituted by Human Resource Development Department [HRDD] to look into the demands of adhoc teachers was held here at HRDD conference hall on Friday. The meeting between HRDD officials and representatives of All Sikkim Adhoc & Temporary Employees Association [ASATEA] was lasted for around two and half hours. During the meeting, adhoc teachers in hundreds gathered at Ridge Road and eagerly waited for the outcome of the meeting.
Speaking to media persons after the meeting, ASATEA members mentioned that the departmental officials have gave the positive response on all demands and issues placed in the meeting. They informed that the department has assured to work out on these demands.
“We have mainly placed three demands of adhoc teachers in the meeting. Our first demand was the regularisation of competent teachers and in the first phase of to regularise those teachers who having the service of five years and above as per a State government notification,” they informed. Likewise, the second demand is the continuation of the service without any break with full salary and the third demand was 50% reservation according to seniority.
“We mainly discuss about these issues in the meeting and the department officials also placed their issues. They have noted down all our issues and given the positive response to take these demands to the higher authorities,” it is informed. It has been informed that HRDD will be giving minutes of today’s meeting to the association tomorrow. “After getting minutes of the meeting, we will see whether the department will include our demands properly or not and then we will further discuss our demands and issues in the next meeting scheduled to be held on 06 February,” they stated.
ASATEA members have also submitted supporting documents to the department during the meeting. “We are still working to get more supporting documents from other States to place in the upcoming meeting. We want all our issues be resolved in the upcoming second meeting of the committee as we are not in the favour for any further meeting,” they said. They added that the department has assured for the full support and cooperation to adhoc teachers and to take the matter to the higher authorities.
ASATEA also raised the issue that heads of different schools have been threatening adhoc teachers to join the school immediately otherwise to face consequences. On the same, the association has urged head of schools not to threaten and pressurize teachers and not to play with their future. On the same, they urged head of schools not to take the matter personally but to cooperate them to get the justice. They asserted that all demands were genuine and should be fulfilled immediately.
“We executive members are the just the medium but it is the collective decision of adhoc teachers not to join their duty until the matter would not be resolved fully,” they said. The schools were reopened for the new academic session after winter vacation.
