A mock drill on earthquake preparedness was conducted in different places of district town Geyzing on Wednesday. The mock exercise was conducted jointly by State Disaster Rescue Force, Forest Department, Fire Brigade, Police Department, Sima Surkacha Bal and Indian Reserve Bal.
The mock earthquake drill was organized with an objective of awaring the people about how the rescue forces involved in rescue mission work during the natural disaster caused due by earthquake. The mock drill was also initiatied to provide practical knowledge about how to deal with the situations related to natural daisater through demonstrations.
The mock earthquake drill was organized at four different sites of Geyzing. A mock scene of collapsed building due to earthquake measuring in destructing magnitude and students trapped and rescued from the building was staged at Industrial Institute of Geyzing. Similarly trees uprooted in the natural disaster caused by earthquake at Tikjuk – Geyzing road, blocking of traffic and participations of forest department for clearance of traffic was also dramatized. Fire break out mock scene at Jilla Panchayat Bhawan, Geyzing and recue mission initiated by the fire brigade was also staged to aware the people about the way the rescue mission is executed at the time of natural disaster. Kyongsa Sport ground was selected as a staging area, district administration centre (Geyzing) was chosen as a control room and district hospital, Geyzing was determined as a medical relief camp .
The heads of the various governmental departments in a mock drill had acted as the officials heading the different department engaged in rescue and rehabilitation mission of the people entagled in natural calamity caused due to earthquake.
SDM (headquarter) Tushar Nikharey who had acted as an incident commander in his brief address appreciated the involvement of various departments for mock exercise. However he maintained that the mock drill was not as good as compared to previous years claiming that it was due to lack of proper coordinations amongst the departments who had participated in the mock drill. He expressed that it was necessary to conduct mock drill to be remain prepared for any kind of natural calamity.
The heads of other departments had also placed their opinions regarding the mock exercise on earthquake preparedness and expressed that informative campaign on the natural disaster situation was important.
