GANGTOK, July 7
Members of Tibetan community from in and around Gangtok have celebrated the 84th birthday of His Holiness 14th Dalai Lama at Bhoe-Lha-Sol-Sa, Sera Jay Drophenling Monastery premises here at Chandmari on Saturday. The celebration started with singing of Tibetan and Indian National anthems which was followed by offering of Mendal Tensum to the portrait of HH the Dalai Lama by the chief guest, RMDD Minister Sonam Lama and guest of honour, Forest Minister, Karma Loday Bhutia. Earlier, in the morning Tibetan members also took part in the mass prayers and festooning of prayer flags.
Likewise, Kashag’s statement was read out by Settlement Officer, Gangtok, Mingyur Youdon and the statement of Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile was read out by Chairman of Local Tibetan Assembly, Rinchen Acharya during the celebration.
On the occasion, citations were also presented to former Secretary, Tsegyal Tashi, Tibetan Calligraphy Genius, Jamyang Dorjee and Tibetan MMA fighter, Tenzing Pema by organisers. The celebration has also witnessed cultural presentation by local Tibetan Kyiduks, institutions and individuals.
