In the support of two-day All India Bank Strike in the country, banks of Sikkim remain closed on Tuesday. The two-day long nation-wide bank strike has been called by All India Bank Employees Association [AIBEA] and Bank Employees Federation of India [BEFI] on 08 and 09 January. On the first day of the strike, banks and ATMs in the town were found closed which caused problem of many customers of different banks on returning from the closed gate of banks and even general people have also facing problem due to shut down ATMs.
It has been known that the bandh has been called in the support of the call of the National Trade Union Convention of Central Trade Unions and various Independent sector wise Trade Union Federation to observe General Strike on 8 and 9 January and to oppose anti people economic policies and anti workers labour policies of the Central Government, Banking reforms measures, privatization and mergers, non recovery of bad loans and Outsourcing permanent jobs in Banks. All India Bank Strike has also demanded the strengthening of public sector banks and adequate recruitments in Banks.
