The one day orientation and training programme for the staffs working under Internal Control System (ICS) was organized today here at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Geyzing. The programme organized by service provider agency Sresta Natural Bio – products Pvt. Ltd was chaired by additional executive director of Sikkim organic mission S.K Sharma. The officials from Horticulture and Cash Crop Development Department and Food Security and Agriculture Development Department. 61 ICS fields functionaries working under 30 ICS projects of West and South Sikkim.
The orientation programme was conducted with sole objective of awaring the ICS field functionaries about their roles and responsibilities for better execution of organic mission related projects and policies initiated by the state government through various departments. The field functionaries were sensitized about the methods and practices to be followed while working for various kinds of project being executed by the departments working under organic mission of the state. They were further informed about the need of proper documentations procedure to be followed regarding preparation of organic certificates and about how to coordinate and help the farmers to sort out the farming based issues.
S.K Sharma in his brief address described the state organic mission as a sustainable initiative of the state government and beneficial in long term basis. Saying that the state government has given topmost priorities to the organic agriculture in the state, S.K Sharma said larger participation of farmers is necessary to push the organic mission ahead. “The state government is assisting the farmers in many ways to sort out the agriculture related issues and the agriculture in the state has been flourishing”, Sharma said, adding that farming has become mainstay of the majority of people belonging to rural areas of the state. He called for constructive involvement of ICS field functionaries in the mission. “Awaring the farmers, imparting knowledge on farming and providing technical guidance to the farmers are necessary responsibilities of the filed workers. The workforce deployed by the concerned departments must work in tandem with the farmers to make the organic mission successful”, he said.
The field functionaries working under ICS were also trained about how to deal with farming based issues while working in tandem with the farmers.
