Consequent upon the directives of the Chief Electoral Officer, Sikkim regarding door to door visit of the BLOs from 15th February 2019 to verify from the household if there are any discrepancies’ in the final roll being published by the Election Commission of India in terms of any members being left out, wrong full entries etc., a meeting with the BDOs, Supervisors and BLOs of South Districts was held today in the Conference Hall of DAC, Namchi chaired by DEO cum DC, South. All SDMs/EROs were also present in the meeting.
The meeting also deliberated on the recent launching of the Voter Verification and Information Programme (VVIP) by the Election Commission of India for citizens for verification of their names, new registrations, changes in the voters details and correction in the voter identity cards for the forth coming Elections 2019. They have been also apprised about the District Contact Centre being in operation with lane line number 03595-264404.
The BLOs were given the prescribed format along with the copy of the final Electoral Roll in respect of their Polling Station for their intensive door to door visit during which time they shall meticulously verify and submit the filled up format. The BLOs have also been appraised that for those Polling Stations where there are more than 700 voters, the BLOs can engage the Aganwadi Workers and ASHA depending upon their competence to assist them in carrying out the verification work in time.
The DEO, South has directed all the BDOs and the BLOs to be in the field from tomorrow and start the work on topmost priority. Various technical issues relating to the final electoral roll were also discussed and all functionaries have vouched to rectify the rolls during the continuous updation of the electoral roll 2019.
In the course of the meeting, the BDOs were also directed to receive the EVM/VVPAT machine for massive awareness programme at all the Polling Stations under their jurisdiction with their BLOs and ELC members for which the calendar for the programme finalised for the month of February 2019 has also been circulated. The prescribed format for reporting was also supplied to them for a consolidated report to be furnished to the CEO office by Saturday every week. Various awareness broacher and pamphlets were also issued to the BLOs concerning use of EVM/VVPAT during the awareness programme.
As part of the orientation programme for BLOs, there were briefed about their roles and responsibilities to be fulfilled before and on the day of poll in their respective Polling Stations.
