Samajik Adhikarita Shivir, a mega camp for free distribution of Assistive Aids and Appliances to Divyangjan and Senior Citizens belonging to BPL Category under ADIP and Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana was held at Government Sr. Sec. School, Kyongsa, Gyalshing, West Sikkim, today.
The union minister for Social Justice and Empowerment department, the government of India Dr. Thawarchand Gehlot attended a programme. The programme was organized by central ministry of Social Justice and department of empowerment of persons with disabilities (Divyangjan) in collaboration with ALIMCO (manufacture and distributors) and National Hydel Power Corporation Limited (NHPC).
Chief minister P.S Golay was also present at the event along with other state’s ministers, differently abled persons, heads of various departments and other dignitaries.
The union minister Dr. Gehlot in his brief address maintained that BJP led central government has been working committedly to improve the living conditions of differently abled persons through various initiatives aimed for upliftment of displaced and differently abled persons. Ghelot expressed that the central government has spent millions of rupees for the upliftment of differently abled sections of the society adding that under the social welfare schemes 2200 people who were deaf have been provided the hearing aids and motorized tricycles have been given to 12,000 people who could not walk along with other facilities. He shared that that computers with facility of brail, mechanical smart canes for the blinds, smart phones along with other facilities are being provided to the differently abled persons considering the greater welfare of the people. He further added that the central government has been working committedly to uplift the social status of differently abled persons through various welfare schemes maintaining that BJP government led by prime minister Narendra Modi is in mission of initiating wholesome development of nation in terms of intelligence, education and skills. “We have been working for the upliftment of underprivileged and downtrodden through various schemes and we hope that our effort will bear fruit in near future”, he said.
Many differently abled persons were handed over smart canes, wheel chairs, earphones and other assistive devices today.
