Sikkim Strength Lifting Association [SSLA] has felicitated Sikkim team members today for their outstanding performance in the first edition of Eastern India Strength Lifting & Incline Bench Press Championship 2019 held from 12 to 14 July at Gyalshing in West Sikkim. The association has also thanked every organization and individual for their support and contribution for the grand success of this national level championship in the State.
The three-day long championship was organized by Sikkim Strength Lifting Association in collaboration with Department of Physical Education, Sikkim Government College, Gyalshing. A 50-member SSLA team represented Sikkim in this first ever Eastern India Strength Lifting & Incline Bench Press Championship.
In the championship, Punai Uraw bagged two gold medals for Sikkim and emerged as the Champion of the Champions in senior men category, while Ranju Sundas also won two gold medals for Sikkim and also lifted the trophy of the Champion of the Champions in senior women category. Ram Dhoj Rai bagged two gold medals for Sikkim and adjudged as the Champion of the Champions in master’s category.
Likewise, Khiney Mukhia and Leomit Lepcha won two gold medals each for Sikkim, Pempa Tamang one gold medal and one silver medal and Atish Tamang won one gold medal for Sikkim. Pahalman Limboo, Chandra Kala Subba and Srijana Subba won two silver medals each for the State and Bhim Subba won one silver medal. Similarly, Ashok Rai and Sujan Chettri won one bronze medal each for the State.
The felicitation function was held here at White Hall complex, which has the Secretary to Sports & Youth Affairs Department, Dr RK Tamang as the chief guest and was accompanied by Joint Director SYA Department, BB Rai and chief advisor Thakur Rai, chief convener RinzingWangyal Chopel and other members of the sports wing of Sikkim Krantikari Morcha party.
In his address, the Secretary congratulated the association for successfully hosting a national level championship in the State. He further congratulated the State team members for their outstanding performance and for winning medals and laurels for the State. He expressed his best wishes to all lifters for their future competitions. Dr Tamang also assured to extend all possible support to the association and lifters from the department.
SKM sports wing chief convener, Mr Chopel stated that sports wing of the ruling party would work as the bridge between the State government and sports persons of the State. He assured to continuously work for the welfare of sports persons of the State and to work for the development and promotion of different sports discipline in the State. He also assured to place the issue of the insurance of local sports persons of the State to the State government. He also suggested Sports & Youth Affairs Department to open gym in every constituency if possible.
Earlier, SSLA chief coach, Pema Dorjee Bhutia stated that it was a proud moment for Sikkim for successfully hosting the first edition of the Easter India Championship in the State. He mentioned that local lifters have totally dominated the championship with their outstanding championship.
Likewise, SSLA publicity secretary Chandra Kala Pradhan thanked every organization and individuals for their support and participation for the success of the championship. She informed that total nine States gave confirmation of their participation but due to road blockages teams of Assam, Bihar and Tripura back from the midway.
