Winter Intensifies as Rain, Snowfall bring down mercury in Sikkim

Gangtok, Dec 18 (HS)

A consistent rainfall since Monday night has resulted the dipping of temperature in all four districts of the State and higher ranges in the State have been getting snowfall. All districts of the State have received rainfall since last night and even it was drizzling all the day on Tuesday, which has increased the cold in all places of the State. Gangtok has recorded the minimum temperature of 8 degree Celsius on Monday. Snowfalls at Lachen, Lachung, Yumthang, Gurudongmar Lake and other higher places in North Sikkim have been reported since last night.  Likewise, Kupup, Gnathang, Baba Mandir, Sherethang, Tsomgo, Nathula and surrounding places in East Sikkim have also received snowfall.

 

 

 

 

 

 

As per Director of Meteorological Centre, Gangtok, GN Raha mentioned that the cyclone in Bay of Bengal has been responsible for the sudden change of weather in Sikkim and its neighbouring regions. He added that the cyclone has affected Sikkim and its surrounding regions and this cold weather may continue for two more days in the region due to the passing of the western disturbance over Sikkim and Darjeeling.
