A preparatory meeting for General Elections 2019 was conducted by the District Electoral Officer (DEO) with all the nodal officers who have been appointed for various election related duties. The District Collector cum DEO informed, that officials from Election Commission of India would review the election preparedness of the district in the month of February and therefore within the first week of February the appointment of man power in various election tasks should be completed and trainings held.
The DEO informed that elections to the three Assembly constituencies, namely Lachen Mangan, Kabi Lungchok and Dzongu will be held from the district. The constituencies will be divided into eleven sectors for the conduct of elections and each sector will be manned by a sector magistrate and sector police officers. The DEO informed that Flying Squads, Video Surveillance teams, static surveillance would be formed as per the directives of the Election Commission of India. The requisition of vehicles was tasked to the Sr. RTO. The DEO informed that all personnel to be engaged in Elections should be done by first week of February. A communication plan and web casting of polls was also discussed during the meeting. The training for political parties and polling personnel will be done in the month of February for which a calendar would be drawn. The Police Department has been tasked with Security planning and Deployment of police personnel during the elections. The DEO also informed that wide awareness on EVMs and VVPATs will be undertaken in the district for which a detailed plan would be drawn and executed by the concerned nodal officer.
The election department North Sikkim also conducted hands on training on EVM s and VVPATS to all Booth level officers. . The BLOs were handed over IEC materials for National Voters day to be celebrated in all polling stations on 25th January.
The DEO sought the active participation and involvement of all the nodal officers in the preparation for the General election. The DEO asked all the nodal officers to dedicate their time for election related duties apart from their normal duties for the proper planning and successful conduct of the General Election 2019.
