Sikkim Motor Transport Workers Association [SMTWA], Singtam president, Tinku Adhikari has refuted and condemned all allegations of New Generation Contractor Cooperative Society [NGCCS], Singtam president Ta Tshering Lepcha. Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Adhikari stated that allegations of Mr Lepcha was totally false as turn of all vehicles were not cancelled but turn of only 15 vehicles of Singtam to Gangtok route have been cancelled so far who procured their turn illegally. He informed that turn of vehicles owned by the government employees and businessmen and vehicles with temporary registration numbers and which were registered in other districts were cancelled.
Mr Adhikari mentioned that genuine drivers who have been earning their livelihood through driving have still running their vehicles from the syndicate. He informed that the association has given time of one month to all member drivers of the syndicate to submit the related documents their turn in the syndication in which 15 have been found illegally. He mentioned that there were possibilities of cancellation of other turns as well if found illegal and against the norms. “This is not our private syndicate so we cannot work illegally,” he said.
Likewise, SMTWA joint secretary, Ravi Chettri alleged that the cooperative society had worked illegally and provided turn to government employees and businessmen and not to genuine unemployed youths. He mentioned that turn has been provided to those vehicles not even having the permit on the route illegally.
