SKM has failed to walk their talk, promises made to the voters: Subba

Gangtok, July 26
Santosh Subba, a young face of the Sikkim Democratic Front(SDF) party has been its active fighter. After a role reversal in the recent assembly polls, Subba talks to Gangtok Times on some pertinent issues.
GT- How do you see the change in government after so many decades?
SS- I don’t see any change except change of party that is ruling. The SKM party, right after coming to power, took decisions it vowed to eradicate such as mass transfers, deputations etc. Though it’s too early to judge the SKM government on performance, the early signs tell us that this government is not going to honour most of its promises. Therefore, the much hyped call for change to me appears nothing more than a change in the party that rules the state.
GT-What is the way forward for your SDF party?
SS-Our leader Pawan Chamling has always said that the SDF is the party of the Sikkimese people. The party will continue working sincerely for the Sikkimese people, holding SKM to account for everything that the SKM government will be doing.
GT-There has been alleged victimization cry by SDF on IPS Akshay and other officials but many say they did cross the line when your party was in power. How do you respond?
SS-The way Mr Akshay, a senior IPS officer was given non-police assignment reeks of victimization. He is being hounded because he acted against the unruly mob of SKM supporters which attacked the former CM’s convoy. I find it a pure example of vindictive politics.
GT-What is the role of a good opposition and how well is your party faring?
SS-The role of the opposition in democracy is to question the government and hold it accountable. The SDF party has been questioning the SKM government on its wrong decisions and forcing it to do a rethink, such as closing down of 24 schools, terminating MR/Ad-hoc workers and so on. The SDF party has been the voice of the affected that’s what the party shall be doing.
GT-Any inputs from your side to the new government?
SS-The SKM government must work sincerely to fulfil the poll promises it made to the voters. They’ve failed to walk their talk so far which the people have started realizing. The SKM government must also immediately stop pursuing vendetta politics and put all its energies on Sikkim’s development.
