Training cum demonstration program on off farm inputs was held at Upper Mabong, West Sikkim under MOVCD (Mission Organic Value Chain Development). The training was organized by FPO in collaboration with HCC&DD and Service Provider Agency Mevedir. The several Farmer Interest Groups affiliated with the FPO were invited as participants to this training program to receive these off farm inputs and to be aware of how to use these organic certified inputs in their major cash crops.
The key participants of this training were D.K. Rai (Field Assistant, HCCDD), Smt. Chandra Maya Limboo and Shasita Rai (Panchayat Member), Shri Maita Raj Rai (FPO Secretary) and the key resource person of this training was Mr. Jason Nim Sherpa and Diwash Chettri from Mevedir.
The training session was chaired by Shri D.K. Rai who welcomed all the participants and briefed about the training agenda. Thereafter Mr. Jason Nim Sherpa from Mevedir explained the farmers about the importance of macro nutrients like NPK (Nitrogen Phosphorus & Potassium) and how these nitrogen fixing bacteria improves the growth and yield of plants.
In the next session Mr. Diwash Chettri explained about the role and the use of bio fertilizers and bio pesticides in controlling diseases that affect the productivity of the crops. The proper usage of the various bio fertilizers like Green SK Azoto, Green SK PSB, Green SK Fratura, VAM Plus, Sheel Rhizobium and Cal-spiral and how they could treat seeds, apply in soil and crop foliage was explained to the farmers. Likewise the bio pesticides such as Bio Magic, Bio Power, Sylderma and Yug was also explained and how it can control pests like borers, khumlay,cutworms, root grubs, leaf hoppers. Whitefly, Aphids, and mealy bug were also explained to the farmers.
The assembled participants were thanked for their time and encouraged to use theses inputs as instructed in the training program. The farmers were also informed that any other queries or difficulty in application of these inputs Mr. Diwash Chettri from Mevedir would be available to explain and assist the farmers. More than 40 farmers attended this training program. The training program was concluded with the vote of thanks by Maita Raj Rai.
