The affected families of Pakyong Airport, today called off its indefinite hunger strike after the SDM, Pakyong assured to conduct meeting between the representative of Airport Victims, AAI officials and State Tourism secretary on Feb 7.
The strike was called today after the contractor of Spark Geo Infra private limited started a construction of protection wall, it was said that the DC East has notified not to start the works till the demands of the Airport victims are not met.
One of the victim Benu Dhakal said, ‘Due to cutting of hill at the upper side of the Airport, our private land has been damaged, and the case is under The High Court of Sikkim. We have been demanding not to start the cutting of the hill till the matter is not solved at the High Court.
AAI officials trying to avoid the matter by saying that state government will compensatethe loss, but everyone knows that Pakyong Airport is the project of AAI and they are running away from their responsibilities said the other victim.
There were total 66 houses at the beginning who file writ petition at the high court but now it has reached more than 300 houses whose houses are damaged totally and partially.
Incharge of Spark Geo Infra Private Limited. JeevanLallDewangan said we are already six months late to start the work of special task to cut the hill and put protection wall.
If the walls are not constructed on time it will affect Airport runway, he added.
