Gangtok, Feb 2
A 21-member Sikkim Men’s team has left to represent the State in the 73rd edition of National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy at Bhilai in Chhattisgarh on Saturday. The prestigious football tournament, which was kicked off today, is being conducted by All India Football Federation. Sikkim has been placed in group B along with West Bengal and Bihar in the qualifying round of the tournament. Sikkim will be playing its first match against Bihar on 05 February and another match against West Bengal on 07 February.
The team members are DawaLhendup Sherpa, Bibek Bhutia, Ashish Chettri, Sonam Tshering Bhutia, UrgenPintso Sherpa, Roman Subba, Boxer Pradhan, LakpaDorjee Bhutia, Robin Sharma, Sanjay Rai, Roshan Mangar, Kunar Tamang, Sukraj Subba, Roshan Pradhan, MayalDok Lepcha, TempaLhendup Bhutia, Sonam Zangpo Bhutia, Sanjay Chettri, Prashant Chettri, Nikesh Gurung and Jasman Gurung. The state team has been accompanied by OT Lepcha as the team manager.
Sikkim Football Association president MenlaEthenpa has announced names of the State team for the prestigious tournament here at Paljor Stadium. He also thanked members of the selection committee for their dedication and hard in last 15 days to form a good team. “Fifty players from different clubs of the State attended the selection trial in which 30 were shortlisted to undergo the State camp and finally 21 players have been finalised to represent the State,” MrEthenpa stated. He extended his best wishes to the State team for the tournament.
