A day long exposure visit was organized for the PGSC award winner (2014-15) farmers of Nonglwai, Shillong under TSP project at ICAR NRC for Orchids, Pakyong on Friday.
The farmers were welcomed by Dr Tshering Lhamu Bhutia, Scientist & Nodal Officer, TSP. Dr D R Singh, Director, ICAR-NRCO, Pakyong highlighted on the importance of different species of the orchids which needs to be conserved and appreciated the work being carried out by the farmers. He also offered to help the farmers in all possible ways by the institute. A lecture on the topic Cultivation of orchids was delivered by Dr L C De, Principal Scientist (Horti) followed by the field visits to different polyhouse of the institute by Dr Ramgopal Devdas, Principal Scientist (Plant breeding), Dr T L Bhutia, Scientist (Horti) and Mr R K Pamarthi, Scientist (EB&PGR). Planting materials of Zygopetalum intermedium (500 nos), shade nets (2 sets) and coco chips (80kg) were distributed to the farmers through the project.
