4th All India IMF Lead and Speed Sport Climbing competition kicked off today at Indian Himalayan Centre for Adventure & Ecotourism (IHCAE) , Chemchey, South Sikkim today.
The program is first of its kind event in Sikkim and in the north east with over 157 participants from across the country which includes five participants from Sikkim.
Brig. MP Yadav, National Chairman, IMF stated that with such events in Sikkim it will the sport is slated to grow in many folds. He also added that in India there should be more infrastructure development in the field of mountain climbing.
He also stated that there is no bounding wall constructed in IHCAE Chemchey and demanded that government does the needful for encouragement to climbers as it would make the centre host international events as well.
BS Pant, Minister, Tourism addressing as the Chief Guest of the function declared the function open and stated that the government wants such avenues to flourish further in Sikkim.
Ganesh Bhujel and Pema Thendup Bhutia are among the international players from Sikkim who were present to take part in the competition.
Col. DN Bhutia while declaring the festival open stated that he is thankful that such an event is coming to Sikkim for the first time and hopes to continue such noble ventures in future.
The competition closes on 8th September which will see many competitions in lead and sports climbing competitions.
Climbers have stated for a need to provide more infrastructural facilities to the present centre at Chemchey and have further stated that such a centre should be at vicinity of the capital for more youths to have an easy access to training in this feild which has a great potential in the Himalayan state.
