A team of 16 progressive farmers and Dy. Project Director, ATMA, Dept. of Agriculture from Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand visited Indian Cardamom Research Institute, Regional Research Station, Spices Board, Tadong on 04/02/2019.
The team included Kamal Kant, Dy. Project Director, ATMA, Progressive farmers viz., SangayMahar, Ganesh Singh, Pradeep Singh, Devki Devi and Nirmala Devi etc. from Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand. Farmers visited the Indian Cardamom Research Institute, RRS, Tadongon Feb 4.
B.A. Gudade, Incharge Dy. Director (Res.) taken the classes on organic large cardamom cultivation, nutrient management, selection of cultivar, conservation of pollinators, pest and diseases management, scientific post harvest technology and marketing of large cardamom for the farmers. He also shared the information on organic mission of the State.
The progressive farmers visited ICRI, Pangthang research farm on 05/02/2019 and seen the ongoing large cardamom research activities at farm and ICRI modified bhatti. The farmers have shown keen interest to know about the crop management practices under organic system in large cardamom and other spices. They also discussed about the feasibility of large cardamom cultivation in Pithoragarh, Uttarakhand.
Today, progressive farmers visited ICRI, Kabi research farm and B.A. Gudade, Incharge Dy. Director (Res.)explained about the ongoing activities of collection, conservation and characterization of germplasm, importance of in-situ soil and water conservation, soil health and organic pest and diseases management of large cardamom in the region. He also discussedabout the market potential, production and market trends of large cardamom cultivation. The progressive farmers expressed their gratitude to the ICRI, RRS, Spices Board, Tadong for their three days training on large cardamom and organic methodologies being used in the state.
