A meeting between AAI officials and the affected families of Airport was held today at Pakyong Airport premises.
AAI was represented by Airport Director Ramatanu Saha, Joint Secretary of Tourism Department Government of Sikkim Marcus P Rai and Airport land victims was represented by Benup Dhakal, SDM Pakyong TD Denzongpa, MK Pradhan. Addl Director. Tourism department and SDPO Pakyong SDPO Pakyong Karma Tshedup Bhutia.
The meeting was called after the indefinite strike was launched by Airport Land Victims at the Airport Gate on Feb 2.
The affected families were demanding government to acquire the damaged land due to Airport construction as per the Land Acquisition act 2013. The land victims called off the strike after the Pakyong SDM assured them to conduct a meeting between the AAI officials and Tourism Department Government of Sikkim.
A committee was constituted which was headed by SDM Pakyong TD Denzongpa and represented by Airport Land victims, AAI officials, official of state tourism department, sub-divisonal officers to demarcate the land belonging to AAI and the damaged land of local public.
The committee will start their survey on 13th of February 2019 and expected to complete the survey by Feb 15.
The committee will submit their report to Tourism Department after two weeks and then the concern department along with AAI officials will approach the Ministry of Civil Aviation, Government of India at New Delhi by the end of this month and submit the reports.
SDM Pakyong informed that the Construction works has been stopped till the survey will be finished.
However, the Airport land victims have said that no works will be allowed to carry at damaged land till the High Court of Sikkim gives the final verdict. The next hearing of the Airport victims is scheduled on 25th of February 2019.
