Sikkim Democratic Front party spokesperson, Bhim Dahal asserted that Sikkim Krantikari Morcha president PS Golay should first understand subjects included under the Union, State and Concurrent Lists before placing any demand.
He further stressed that SKM should first give its clear formula and stand on Limboo-Tamang seats reservation, tribal status to eleven left out communities and other issues before given ultimatum to the State government on these issues.
He was responding to the ultimatum given by SKM president to the State government to fulfil 30-point demands by 25 February otherwise to call the state-bandh from 26 February.
Addressing a press conference, Mr Dahal stated that SKM president should first understand subjects covered under the union, state and concurrent lists before placing any demand. He lambasted that SKM party and SIBLAC were the biggest obstacles for the delay of seat reservation for Limboo and Tamang.
He mentioned that SDF government placed its clear 40 seats formula in the Centre to reserve five seats for Limboo and Tamang in the State Assembly on the basis of the Burman Commission report. On the same, Mr Dahal questioned about the clear stand and formula of SKM party for LT seat reservation. He stated that being the central issue, SDF government has been constantly pursuing this issue sincerely with the Centre since inception and the issue reached almost reached to its logical end when it reached in the union cabinet before placing in the parliament.
On the same, he mentioned that in the meantime SKM MLAs backed by SIBLAC asked the Union Home Minister to give LT seats from existing 32 seats. He added that these shows that SKM party and its president and SIBLAC convener Tseten Tashi were totally Anti-Nepali and such demand to reserve seats from 32 seats would be total injustice to majority population of Sikkim. He mentioned that SDF party was always honest towards this issue and has already announced to give five candidates from LT if seats were not reserve before 2019 election.
Mr Dahal stated that SKM party does not have clear stand and formula even for tribal status to eleven leftout communities of Sikkim and other issues placed by it. On the same, he stated that SKM party should able to give its clear stand and formula before giving ultimatum on these issues to the government.
Speaking on other demands placed by SKM president, Mr Dahal stressed upon the need of knowledge and positive thinking to understand the speech, personality and leadership of the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling. He stated that demands for regularisation, pay commission and others have already implemented. He added that SKM party has been giving baseless and irresponsible statement due to its negative politics. He added that the people of Sikkim were prudent enough to understand misinformation spreading by SKM party.
SDF spokesperson, KT Gyaltsen mentioned that SKM party has placed these 30 demands to the government after having no political vision, ideology and programme. He added that Sikkim was a sensitive border State and it needs peace, tranquility and harmony. He stated that the threatening of a convicted person to call the state bandh was very dangerous to the State. He stressed that in case of any loss to the State and its people then SKM party would be fully responsible.
Mr Gyaltsen stated that the Court should take the serious note of the call for such unwanted bandh in the State.
Regarding the question whether Mr Golay can contest the upcoming election or not, he stated that SDF party was not interested at all on the ongoing argument on the candidature of Mr Golay in the upcoming election but the party has the only concern on the people should not get misguide or mislead with propaganda of SKM party on this issue. He added that the argument and interpretation placed by SKM advocates were their understanding. On the same, he stated that the argument of repealing placed by SKM party would not apply in the case of disqualification of Mr Golay.
