Sixty aspiring young footballers have participated in a Summer Football Camp 2019 for boys and girls of age groups 07 to 18 years, which was started here at Tashi Namgyal Academy football ground on Saturday. The week-long football camp is being organised by a Gangtok-based premier division club, Sikkim Aakraman Football Club.
The participating children have been divided into groups of 9 to 12 years, 13 to 15 years and 16 to 18 years for the camp under experienced and certified coaches. The camp has Sikkim Aakraman FC coach, Shisil Karthak and State Sports Academy coach, Pushpa Gurung and Mayal Dok Lepcha as head coaches. The camp also has AIFF D licence coaches, Don Tshering Lepcha ,Nim Tshering Lepcha, Prabhakar Golay, Akash Chettri , Pintso Sherpa and Sonam Gyaltsen Tenzing and also assisted by senior footballers of the State.
The inaugural day has Sikkim Football Association president, MenlaEthenpa as the chief guest, who was accompanied by former Secretary to the Government of Sikkim, TW Rinzing and TNA Principal Brigadier [Retd] M George Jacob as guests of honour. The first day of the camp also has Indian international footballers from Sikkim, Nirmal Chettri and Bikash Jairu as special guests along with enthusiastic parents and guardians of participating children.
Sikkim Aakraman FC president, Jigmee Singey Rinzing Wangchuk mentioned that the club has organised the football coaching camp for children for the first time. However, he shared that the club has plans to organise such camp twice a year in every summer and winter time.
He mentioned that the camp has been designed after an extensive research to provide knowledge on the basic and fundamental of football to make a strong foundation of aspiring young footballers to play professional football in the future. He stated that the camp will have audio video coaching sessions and interactive sessions with prominent international and national footballers of Sikkim with participants.
Mr. Wangchuk mentioned that the camp was also a talent hunt to spot skilful young players for U-15 and U-17 teams of Sikkim Aakraman FC. The club has provided jersey and stocking and kit bag to all participants along with healthy diet every day after training session.
