Sikkim Pradesh Congress Committee [SPCC] president Bharat Basnett appeals all political parties of Sikkim to come above the politics to save the existence and identity of Sikkim. He asserted that 32 MLAs of Sikkim Assembly have huge responsibility to save Sikkimese and its future.
Addressing a press conference here today, Mr Basnett once again reiterated that Sikkim has not been exempted from the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019. He asserted that the Gazette of India on the act has not included Sikkim. He added that although the Gazette of India on the act has mentioned names of areas of some States exempted from the act falls under the Sixth Schedule and Inner Line Permit area but it does not have the name of Sikkim.
SPCC president questioned the Centre on the bus service from Dhaka, Bangladesh to Sikkim. On the same, he questioned on why Sikkim has been chosen which even does not have the direct connection with Bangladesh and why not other States of north-eastern region which shares borders with Bangladesh. “If the Centre is really concern then it should start bus service from Sikkim to countries likes Nepal, Bhutan and China with it shares its borders,” he said.
Mr Basnet alleged that Sikkim has become a dumping ground to dump immigrants of other countries under CAA. He stated that Sikkim was the only state in the north-eastern region which has the largest population of Hindu and Buddhist so it would be easy to dump immigrants in the State. On the same, he appeals political parties and people of Sikkim to come together to save the existence and identity of Sikkim by coming above the politics. He asserted that 32 MLAs of Sikkim Assembly has huge responsibility to save Sikkimese and its future.
Responding to media queries, SPCC president alleged that the regional parties of the State have been responsible for the dilution of the Article 371F since long time. He further alleged that political leaders have not been seen serious to protect the rights and privileges of people of Sikkim but rather busy in just enjoying the power. He added that the people of Sikkim have been suffering due to incapability of the people’s representatives of the State. He stated that the Citizenship (Amendment) Act would further affect the Article 371F and further increase the influx in the State.
