R.Telang, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer,(CEO) chaired a press conference on publication of draft electoral roll with reference to 01.01.2020 as a qualifying here at Baluwakhani today.
Also present were Anil Raj Rai, Special Secretary ,RMDD who has been appointed by Election Commission of India(ECI) as Roll Observer , Roshni Rai, Additional CEO and representatives from recognised political parties along with the officials and staffs from the office of CEO.
During the conference, CEO highlighted about the schedule for special summary revision of photo electoral rolls with reference to 01.01.2020 as qualifying date which is from 17th December 2019 to 15th January 2020 .During this period ,inclusion, deletion, correction and transfer of names in the electoral roll can be applied in Form 6,7,8 and 8A .Eligible citizens who have attained 18 years on or before 01.01.2020 may apply for inclusion of their names in the electoral roll during the Special Summary Revision. Eligible citizens may also apply online on www.nvsp.in and for further details may log in at www.ceosikkim.nic.in
He further mentioned that during 1st September to 30th November 2019, the Commission had conducted a special verification drive of electors termed as Electors Verification Programme (EVP) wherein 100% of the electors were verified through House to House verification by Booth Level Officers(BLO) .It has been observed that large numbers of forms were received during EVP for deletion and correction which have been disposed of before draft publication.
The Chief Electoral Officer further directed all the officials/ officers concerned to comply with the instructions and directions of the Election Commission of India for Special Summary Revision of Electoral roll w.r.t.01.01.2020 as the qualifying date.
He also appealed all the recognised political parties to appoint Booth Level agents (BLA) in all polling booths to address their claims and objections before the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) leading to much transparency in the registration process. A copy of the draft electoral Roll has also been handed to the representatives of political parties.
CEO appealed to all citizens that the draft roll has been uploaded in www.ceosikkim.nic.in and citizens can also inspect the draft roll in the office of Electoral Registration Officers of respective Assembly Constituency.
Also, it was mentioned by the CEO to contact Roll Observer,Shri Anil Raj Rai at his mobile no.9593782919 for any redressal of grievances in case of any irregularities during inclusion and deletion of names in the electoral roll.
