Minister of Human Resource Development, Law, Legislative and Parliamentary Affairs and Land Revenue and Disaster Management Department, Kunga Nima Lepcha, presided over the event as the Chief Guest along with Additional Secretary, Education Department, G.P. Upadhyaya, Chairman, Vinayaka Missions Sikkim University (VMSU) Hemant Kumar Goyal, Vice Chancellor, VMSU, Shri S.S. Hasan, Registrar, VMSU, K. Sathasivam, representatives from SIBIN Group (RUSA Consultancy), teachers, parents and students.
There were 199 graduates from Vinayaka Missions Sikkim University today.
The convocation was initiated with the Release of Annual Report by the Registrar.
The Minister, Shri Lepcha, presented awards to graduates of Department of Commerce, Computer Science, Environment and Ecology, Education, Nursing, Bsc Nursing, Pharmacy. Gold and Silver awards for academic excellence were also presented to the students.
Minister, Shri Lepcha in his address congratulated the students who have entered a different phase of life. He expressed joy on finding out that the graduated students from Bhutan were also present in the event. On this context, he said that Sikkim has truly become a state which attracts students from other regions.
The Minister told the students that self-motivation and self-discipline are a great factors in personal & community development. Students should take education as an opportunity to uplift the community instead of seeing it as employment opportunity, he added.
